Neverwinter journalists
TWO professors at the University of Minnesota are using Neverwinter Nights, a role-playing game from BioWare to teach journalism skills. Profs. Kathleen Hansen of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Nora Paul, the director of SJMC’s Institute for New Media Studies used the game-building toolset bundled with NWN to modify the game for their purposes.

The business of play
Like a lot of people, I was drawn to computers by games. In those pre-Internet days, I used to stay up until dawn, hunched over a keyboard, staring into the monitor as I battled pirates and monsters or solved puzzles. I didn’t realize it at the time, but by trading insults with pirates in “Monkey Island,” listening to wisecracks in “Sam and Max,” or loping along on a voyage of discovery in the strange world of the “Neverhood” as Klayman, I was doing my small share to drive innovation in the computer industry.
